THE PREDICTION

After a terrible start to this season, Surrey finally have lift off in the County Championship after an outstanding innings and 289-run thrashing of formerly unbeaten Hampshire at the Kia Oval. Bowlers Jordan Clark (6/21) and Kemar Roach (8/40) shone with the ball and a double century from Hashim Amla laid the first innings foundation with the bat. England international Ollie Pope will have been pleased to hit 131 as the international summer draws closer. For now though, it’s all about Surrey for Pope and his teammates as they look to back this up away at Leicestershire. The running Foxes were desperately disappointed last time out after losing by four wickets vs Gloucestershire after the South West based county successfully chased down a target of 348.

As expected at the start of the season, Leicestershire currently sit at the bottom of Group 2 with three losses from their opening four games, although they can take heart that the only match in which they avoided defeat was a high scoring draw against Surrey at the Kia Oval. With home advantage in their favour this time, Leicestershire will believe they can cause a surprise yet again. However, such a thumping victory over Hampshire is sure to have lit a fire under Surrey, who travel to Leicester full of momentum and with an intimidating squad full of international quality with bat and ball, Rory Burns’ side should back up that thrashing of Hampshire, with another win here.
