THE PREDICTION
The bottom two counties in Group 2 face off here as Leicestershire host Middlesex. The chances of either team qualifying for Division One are now significantly remote and already this match feels like somewhat of a dead rubber. Leicestershire are without a win in their six County Championship matches so far and whilst they have fought admirably this season, the lack of quality within their side has been exposed. Middlesex meanwhile, have been let down by their batting department who have failed to adequately back up their bowlers over the course of the season. However, a Nick Gubbins hundred in their second innings against Surrey gave them cause for optimism going forward.
The outcome of this match will likely depend upon the performance of the Middlesex batters. Even without bowler Toby Roland-Jones due to injury, the bowling unit of Middlesex should be strong enough to take 20 wickets against Leicestershire. Providing the batters such as captain Peter Handscomb and opener Sam Robson can support the likes of Gubbins by contributing big runs to the team, then Middlesex should go on and secure their second win of the season.
