THE PREDICTION
This is the Group 3 fixture that everyone has been waiting for, as first-placed Lancashire meet second-placed Yorkshire in a mouth-watering Roses clash at Emirates Old Trafford. Whilst the visitors were not in action over the latest round of County Championship games, Lancashire could only bat for 34.3 overs against Northamptonshire as rain wiped out almost the entire four days of scheduled play at the county ground. Only three points currently separate the two sides in the table, with both having not lost yet this season, so we could be in for an absolute belter of a contest here.
Much will likely depend on which England players will be made available for this match. Should players who have now returned from the IPL be allowed to feature, then Yorkshire will benefit hugely in the batting department with both Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan coming into the side, making up for the loss of England test captain Joe Root who is on international duty. For Lancashire, it would mean the return of wicketkeeper batsman Jos Buttler, who would no doubt play a big role for the Red Rose if available. With the two teams so well matched, this one is likely to be decided by fine margins with one particular good or bad session for either side potentially the difference between victory and defeat. Ultimately with home advantage in their favour and a quality spin-bowling option in Matt Parkinson, Lancashire may just edge what will be a fascinating encounter providing the weather remains fair over the four days.
