THE PREDICTION
Third-placed Northamptonshire’s seven wicket win over Sussex, combined with second-placed Yorkshire’s loss away at Lancashire means that just two points separates them in Group 3. Therefore, Northants simply cannot afford to slip up away at struggling Kent should they wish to leapfrog the White Rose. Meanwhile, Kent were indebted to their evergreen all-rounder Darren Stevens for rescuing them from a first innings collapse against Glamorgan in a match blighted by bad weather. The 45-year-old hit a stunning 190 batting at number seven to ensure no chance of Kent falling to defeat against the Welsh county, with the contest ultimately ending a draw.
However, Kent do sit bottom of Group 3 with no wins to their name after seven matches. Both top order batter Zak Crawley and wicketkeeper Sam Billings will be unavailable in this match due to England commitments and things don’t look like getting better for the hosts any time soon. Northamptonshire though, are riding the crest of a wave having won two of their last three and should make it four County Championship games unbeaten with victory at The Spitfire Ground.
