THE PREDICTION
Both these counties finished as runners-up in their respective conference groups with Yorkshire accruing four more points than Hampshire having won an extra game. However, the visitors will be hit hard by a lack of key personnel ahead of their trip to Southampton. Batters Joe Root, Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow will all be on England duty, a crucial blow at such an important stage of the campaign. Hampshire however, do not have any England call-ups to worry about and bowler Chris Wood will also be available if needed after recovering from an injury suffered in the men's Hundred competition.
Without those three England players, Yorkshire’s batting does look worryingly frail against a high-class Hampshire bowling attack led by South African Kyle Abbott. Captain James Vince will also be expected to carry his strong limited overs form into the red ball game. If the rest of Hampshire’s batting line-up can step and provide adequate support for Vince, then the hosts are more than capable of getting off to the perfect start in Division One and are to be narrowly favoured in this one.
