THE PREDICTION
Gloucestershire proved that their good start to the season wasn’t just a flash in the pan against Group 2 leaders Hampshire in the third round of County Championship fixtures. After looking set for an innings defeat, Gloucestershire’s last wicket pairing of Josh Shaw and Dominic Goodman survived over an hour and 106 balls at the crease against a formidable Hampshire bowling attack to earn their side a draw that would have felt like victory. Meanwhile, Leicestershire failed to back up their hard-fought draw away at Surrey as they were comfortably beaten by Somerset at Taunton. In what was very much a mismatch, the Bob Willis Trophy finalists made light work of the Running Foxes, triumphing by nine wickets.
If Leicestershire are to stand any chance in this match, they’ll likely have to improve with bat after only acquiring 432 runs over the course of their two innings vs Somerset. Much will depend on the performance of overseas batsman Marcus Harris, with the Australian opener failing twice on his debut for the county. Gloucestershire however, come into this one on a huge high and cannot afford to take their foot off the gas if they wish to overtake Hampshire at the top of Group 2. The South West based county look an outstanding all-round side with not only a top overseas player within their ranks, but also a clutch of strong local players such as wicketkeeper batsman James Bracey and this combination should ultimately lead Gloucestershire to victory here.
