THE PREDICTION
It has certainly not been the sort of start to the County Championship that Kent would have been expecting heading into this season. Two losses and one draw from their opening three games including most recently an innings defeat at the hands of Lancashire sees them currently at the bottom of Group 3. Glamorgan contain the same record after losing by seven wickets to Northamptonshire last time out, however four extra bonus points see them currently above Kent in the table.
With both sides off the back of two straight defeats, whoever falls short here will already face a mountain to climb if they wish to finish in the top two of Group 3 and so the pressure is on here for these two teams. Glamorgan could be provided with a huge boost heading into this one as they look set to welcome Australian test match batsman Marnus Labuschagne into their side, although the overseas player isn’t confirmed as of yet to be definitely playing due to the rules regarding quarantine. His availability will absolutely key to Glamorgan’s hopes in this game. Without him, it’s difficult not to see Kent ultimately batting the Welsh county out of this match, applying scoreboard pressure via their strong top order and giving their bowlers enough runs to force mistakes from the Glamorgan batsman. It is advised to wait for both teams to announced their respective squads the day before this match and if Labuschagne is not available for Glamorgan, then Kent have to be favoured to get their first win of the season in Cardiff.
