THE PREDICTION
Durham’s draw against Derbyshire will be fairly encouraging but they will be disappointed to make it three matches to kick off the season without a victory. They have had the better of all three games but were held to draws by Nottinghamshire and Derby but collapsed to a 44-run defeat at Chelmsford against Essex; despite taking a 163-run first innings lead. The form of overseas batsman David Bedingham has been really impressive as he has already surpassed 500 runs in the opening three matches with a score of 257 against Derbyshire.
They come up against a Warwickshire side who pulled off their second consecutive impressive fourth-day run chase. Their seven-wicket win over Essex, led by an unbeaten century from Robert Yates at the top of the order, followed a three-wicket win against Nottinghamshire the week before. The loss of Dominic Sibley due to an injury had posed questions of the Bears’ top-order but they have adjusted very well and the form of Olly Stone will be very encouraging for Warwickshire and England fans alike.
The home team are set to welcome Mark Wood back and that could be crucial as, despite Warwickshire’s impressive run-chasing exploits, they have only gone past 300 on one occasion. Given that, Durham will fancy their chances of being able to out-score their opponents and manage their first victory of the season.
