THE PREDICTION
Both these sides emerged from their opening County Championship fixtures with credible draws. Whilst Derbyshire had the weather to thank for helping them hold out for a draw by reducing the number of overs available in their game away vs Warwickshire, Worcestershire went toe to toe with County Champions Essex at Chelmsford, recording 475 in reply to the hosts’ 490-9 as opening batsman Jake Libby carried his bat for the Pears with a terrific 180 not out. It was the second longest innings in County Championship history, as Libby stood firm against a strong Essex bowling attack in a knock which lasted 11 hours and 21 minutes.
If Worcestershire can improve their potency with the ball, then they stand an excellent chance of recording their first win of the season here. Derbyshire were bowled out twice by Warwickshire for 189 and 244 respectively, the only county to lose 20 wickets in the opening round of Group 1 games. When considering that Worcestershire should have fast bowler Alzarri Joseph available for selection, the West Indian overseas player should help provide the quality Worcestershire need with the ball to take 20 wickets and ultimately force victory in this one.
