THE PREDICTION
Warwickshire’s emphatic 170-run win over Nottinghamshire was a giant boost to their top two hopes in Group 1 and with table toppers Essex facing second-placed Notts in the same round of fixtures, this match away at rock bottom Derbyshire represents an excellent chance of Warwickshire to jump into the top two with a game in hand on Essex. Derbyshire are winless from their seven County Championship fixtures and have lost two of their last three matches by an innings. At this stage, the hosts are likely to have written off their red ball season and already have one eye on the start of the upcoming Vitality Blast.
When taking into account the form of Derbyshire, Warwickshire have little excuse not to triumph in this one. The visitors won’t have either opening batter Dom Sibley or fast bowler Olly Stone available with both playing for England and it is unknown as of yet whether the ECB will allow all-rounder Chris Woakes to feature. With or without Woakes however, Warwickshire should have more than enough quality to secure a comfortable win against a very poor Derbyshire outfit.
