THE LOWDOWN
OTAGO VOLTS
- Otago Volts got back to winning ways last time out as they beat Northern Knights by two wickets and while the margin of victory appeared small, they were always comfortable in the run chase despite losing wickets.
- Hamish Rutherford hit 49 in that game and looks to be finding some form with the bat which will be a boost as the batting order has failed to fire so far with none of their batsmen individually managing to score more than 95 total runs in their three games so far and only Llew Johnson scoring a fifty so far.
- They have been pretty consistent with their selection so far with just one rotation made so far but with two wins from three and performances being solid enough, they will likely go unchanged for this game.
CENTRAL STAGS
- After winning their last two games in some style, the Central Stags came back down to earth last time out being reduced to just 117/9 from their 20 overs by the Northern Knights before ultimately losing by six wickets with 14 balls to spare.
- They were without their skipper Tom Bruce who was missing due to the birth of his child as Ben Smith came in and hit an unbeaten 22 but the change in order seemed to impact them and they lost their way in a disappointing batting performance.
- Left-arm spinner Jayden Lennox came in for that game to make his Super Smash debut and he took 2/17 from his four overs so there is every chance he will retain his place in the line-up here and it is unlikely there will be any kneejerk reactions following that loss.
THE PREDICTION
These two teams sit level on eight points apiece in the Super Smash ladder but it is the Otago Volts who come into this game in better form. They won last time out against the Northern Knights who beat the Stags in their last game which will have given them a big boost in confidence. There are still some question marks over their batting however and they will be tested against the Stags’ bowling unit. The visitors were well below par last time out but that was just a blip and they will be confident and fired up to bounce back here. They are more than capable of doing that and their batting especially should respond and be able to outscore the Volts.
