THE PREDICTION
The top two teams meet in the Marsh Cup final as New South Wales and Western Australia will play each other for the first time in the tournament after their group stage game was completely washed out. New South Wales have been the standout team in the tournament so far winning all of their completed games and they are heavily favoured to win this final. They were expected to be without Josh Hazelwood but the national team pace bowler pulled out of the IPL and will instead join Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis in a strong attack. The question will be whether their batting can withstand the absence of David Warner, Steve Smith and Moises Henriques who have all left for the IPL. That significantly weakens them and it comes at a time when Western Australia have their strong set of players that they have had available the entire tournament. In their decisive win over Tasmania that saw them reach the final, they were able to bring in Mitch Marsh, D’Arcy Short, Josh Phillipe, Ashton Agar and Jason Behrendorff for the first time to boost their team notably. All of a sudden they look arguably stronger all-round compared to NSW. Much will depend on whether their batsmen can stand up to the star bowling attack of NSW but on the face of it, it is Western Australia who offer the value here.
