THE LOWDOWN
BEXIMCO DHAKA
- After losing their opening three matches of the Bangabandhu T20 Cup, Dhaka have responded by winning their last three games now including a win over Chattogram last time out so confidence is high right now.
- The bowling unit has been a real strength of the team in recent games taking eight wickets or more in their last four matches and while there has been no standout bowler, the entire unit is contributing and taking wickets right now.
- The batting is much improved also with Mushfiqur Rahim and Yasir Ali providing the stability and consistency but they will likely have to step it up here if they to match this strong Khulna side.
GEMCON KHULNA
- Gemcon Khulna have already qualified for the semi-finals but they will be keen to get a win here against Dhaka in their final group stage match after losing to Chattogram by three wickets on Tuesday.
- Mashrafe Mortaza came in for his debut and bowled reasonably well so he will be keen to get more playing time here ahead of the knockout phase while Shakib Al Hasan’s struggles with the bat continued as he laboured to 15 off 16 balls to take his tally to 75 from seven innings.
- Shuvagata Hom continues to be a revelation since coming into the side with both bat and ball but while Mahmudullah and Imrul Kayes are improving, their batting remains fragile and they still need more contributions.
THE PREDICTION
This will be a fascinating encounter as Dhaka need a win to be assured of a semi-final place but Khulna will want to get a win to go into the knockout phase with some momentum after losing last time out. Khulna won the previous meeting by 37 runs after bowling Dhaka out for just 109 but it is fair to say that Dhaka have improved significantly since then. Expect this to be a much closer game between the two, but Khulna’s greater depth in their batting and greater bowling options sees them marginally preferred.
