WHO ARE THE LEADING MEDAL CONTENDERS?

The world record for this event was set by Aries Merritt in September 2012 in Brussels, with a time of 12.8 seconds. The Commonwealth Games record for this event was set by Colin Jackson, of Wales. The 1988 Seoul Olympics silver medallist set a time of 13.08 seconds at both the 1990 Auckland and 1994 Victoria games.

Jamaica won the gold and silver medal in this event in 2018 at the Gold Coast event with Ronald Levy taking gold and Hansle Parchment finishing second. Australia’s Nicholas Hough took the bronze.

TSZ’S PREDICTION

Since that 2018 gold medal, Ronald Levy took the bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, last summer. He finished behind the 2018 silver medallist Parchment and USA’s Grant Holloway. Parchment has suffered a recent injury and may not be capable of an electric race but he is still expected to take gold.

TSZ Tip: HANSLE PARCHMENT (JAMAICA) TO WIN
