Coco Gauff safely booked her place in round two of the Australian Open after defeating Kamilla Rakhimova in straight sets. Gauff broke her opponent on six occasions as she won 6-2 6-3 after one hour and 39 minutes. There were some issues on serve for the two-time Grand Slam singles champion, as she registered a second serve percentage of just 33% and was broken twice, but she was never in trouble.
She takes on Olga Danilovic after she fought back to beat Venus Williams in round one. Williams become the oldest female singles player to compete at the Australian Open and looked on course for victory as she opened up a 4-0 lead in the deciding set. But Danilovic roared back to win the last six games and seal a 6-7 (5) 6-3 6-4 victory.
Danilovic’s aggressive left-handed groundstrokes could cause some problems for Gauff early on, but she always seems to create opportunities for herself and will be expected to come through in straight sets.
