Coco Gauff vs Maria Sakkari Prediction
After losing early in both Qatar and Dubai, Coco Gauff’s form was in question prior to Indian Wells and she was given a real scare by Moyuka Uchijima over the weekend, with the American eventually prevailing in a deciding-set tie-break.
Gauff served an eye-opening 21 double faults during that second-round clash and admitted to being a little low on confidence after those early exits.
She will certainly need to improve on that area against Maria Sakkari, who has something of a love affair with this tournament having reached the final in two of the last three years, while she was also a semi-finalist between those runner-up finishes. Indeed, she defeated Gauff in the semi-finals here last year, and has won five of their eight career meetings.
The American is a heavy favourite with the bookies, but given her recent vulnerabilities combined with Sakkari’s pedigree at Indian Wells, the outcome is not so clear cut.
