Coco Gauff vs Jasmine Paolini prediction
Coco Gauff continued her serene progress at the Wuhan Open as she defeated Laura Siegemund in the quarter-finals. Gauff was broken in the first very service game of the match, but it was plain sailing for the American after that as she won the final seven games to win 6-3 6-0 after an hour and 25 minutes. The world number three has dropped just nine games in the whole tournament and has reached the last four for the second year in succession.
She will now face Jasmine Paolini. Paolini pulled off one of her most impressive victories of the season as she demolished six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek to record her first ever win against the Pole and make it through to the last four. The Italian was relentless in creating opportunities on the Swiatek serve as she wrapped up a 6-1 6-2 victory. Paolini has enjoyed an incredibly strong Asian swing and now has nine wins from her last 10 matches, stretching back to the Billie Jean King Cup Finals.
Paolini leads the head-to-head 3-2 but Gauff leads on hard court 2-1. The Italian has won all three of their meetings this season, in Stuttgart, Rome and Cincinnati. This is likely to be a close encounter between the two but given the Italian’s strong form and recent success against Gauff, she deserves to be seen as the favourite.
