The third seed will now take on Elise Mertens for the fifth time after the Belgian romped to a 6-2 6-2 victory over Emma Navarro.
That triumph ended a winless match-up against Navarro and Elise will need a similar first here as she trails Coco 4-0 in the head-to-head.
Gauff prevailed 6-0 6-2 in their most recent showdown at Indian Wells in 2024 and while this may be closer, we expect the psychology to work in terms of boosting the two-time major winner and creating doubts for the world number 22.
