With victories over Olivia Gadecki and Yue Yang, Clervie Ngounoue qualified for her second WTA Tour event of the year. She is searching for her first win on the main draw this season after losing in the first-round of Indian Wells. She is currently ranked 221 in the world and has two event wins on the Challenger Tour this season in Birmingham and Palma del Rio.
Hailey Baptiste will be her opponent in the first-round. Baptiste lost to 2023 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in Montreal last week in the second-round. She lost 6-4 6-3 against the Kazakhstani and was on the end of a defeat to Sofia Kenin a week earlier in round one of Washington. The American is currently 50 in the world but her best result of the season came all the way back in January, where the made the quarter-finals in Auckland.
Despite her indifferent form, this should be a routine victory for Baptiste in the first-round.
