Clement Tabur continued his progress in Metz as he saved a match point on his way to a dramatic three set victory against Alexander Blockx. All three sets went to tiebreaks, with Blockx going in front after set one and being on the verge of victory in the second, only for Tabur to fight back and hold his nerve to win 6-7 (4) 7-6 (6) 7-6 (6) after two hours and 51 minutes.
He will now face Vitaliy Sachko, who recorded the best win of his career and produced the shock of the week so far as he beat world number 13 Alexander Bublik in three sets. Bublik had reached the semi-finals of the Paris Masters last week and has won four ATP titles this season, but the Ukrainian broke late on in the third set to win 7-5 3-6 7-5.
These two met for the first time in qualifying for this event, with Tabur coming from a set down to advance. Both of these players are in unchartered territory and it is likely to come down to who can hold their nerve the most. A three set match is certainly not out of the question.
