Clara Tauson vs Ajla Tomljanovic prediction

Clara Tauson enjoyed a strong showing in Montreal last week, as she made it through to the semi-finals without dropping a set. This included fantastic victories over Grand Slam champions Iga Swiatek and Madison Keys. She was unable to get past Naomi Osaka in the last four, despite holding set points in the second to force a decider. Nevertheless, there were so many positives to take and Tauson will hope she can perform like that again in Cincinnati.

She will go up against Ajla Tomljanovic in the second-round after receiving a bye. The Australian snapped a three match losing streak in round one as she defeated Anna Bondar 7-6 6-0. It was a decent serving performance from Tomljanovic, as she dropped her serve just once and won 73% of her first serve points.

They are locked at 1-1 on the WTA Tour in terms of the head-to-head, with Tomljanovic also beating Tauson in the qualifying stages of this tournament three years ago. She came from a set down to defeat her in the final of the Hong Kong 125 Open last year, their most recent meeting. 

Despite an indifferent record against the Aussie, Tauson is performing strongly at the moment and will be a clear favourite to win.
