Christopher O’Connell vs Alex de Minaur prediction

Christopher O’Connell was forced to retire from his second-round match at the Winston-Salem Open last time out due to an abdominal injury. The Australian seemed to be in discomfort when he was serving and trailed Bautista Agut by a set before he decided to call it quits. He did pick up a win over former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas in round two of the Canadian Open a few weeks before that, but was then forced to withdraw from the tournament as his injury problems returned.

Alex de Minaur began his hard court swing perfectly as he won the Washington Open title after a dramatic final which saw him save three championship points against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. He then followed that up with a quarter-final finish in Toronto despite the quick turnaround. The number of matches had clearly taken their toll by Cincinnati as he lost in round one to Reilly Opelka.

These two were actually due to face each other last month in the third-round of Toronto before O’Connell withdrew from the tournament. De Minaur will be raring to go and should get off to a fast start in New York.
