Christopher O’Connell earned a scalp in round two as he defeated former world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets. The Greek is enduring a wretched season, but O’Connell still held his nerve, saving three break back points in a crucial serving game near the start of the decider to take a crucial 2-0 lead. Tsitsipas fell away after that, with O’Connell winning 6-4 4-6 6-2.
His opponent in the next round is a fellow Aussie as Alex de Minaur comfortably got past Francisco Comesana in his second-round match after an hour and 30 minutes. He has now won six matches in a row after his Washington Open triumph last week. De Minaur conceded just one break point as he defeated the Argentine 6-4 6-2.
De Minaur is enjoying his best run of form of the campaign so far and is likely to prove too much for O’Connell. We expect the world number eight to come through this in straight sets once again.
