Caty McNally produced one of her best performances for quite some time as she defeated Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova in straight sets. This was Noskova’s first match on tour since her triumph at SW19, and she struggled at times, with McNally edging a tight first set and racing clear in the second to win 7-6 (5) 6-1. The American also came through a close match with Tatjana Maria in the first-round.
She will now face Alexandra Eala after the Filipino extended her winning streak to six matches following a three set win over Alycia Parks. Eala, who won the Washington Open title just 48 hours earlier, was taken to a decider by Parks but outlasted the American to win 6-1 4-6 6-2.
Eala will be a commanding favourite, but the amount of tennis she has played recently could prove a factor. McNally’s aggressive all-court style is capable of asking plenty of questions.
