Caty McNally is through to the quarter-finals of the Libema Open after a straight sets win over Solana Sierra. McNally created 13 break point opportunities in total as she won 6-4 6-3. The American had come from a set down to beat Emma Navarro in the first-round, and she is now one match away from a first semi-final of the season.
She will take on Ajla Tomljanovic. The Australian beat Dayana Yastremska to advance. The match was played over two days, with Tomljanovic recovering from the loss of the opening set to eventually progress. She failed to serve out the match at 5-4, but was able to do so at the second attempt as she won 4-6 6-4 7-5.
McNally leads the head-to-head 3-0, but this will be their first meeting on grass. They played each other just a few weeks ago in the opening round of Roland Garros, with the American overturning a set and 3-0 deficit to win. The 24-year-old knows how to get over the line against Tomljanovic.
