Caty McNally vs Ajla Tomljanovic prediction
Caty McNally recovered from a drop in form during the second set to register a first-round win over Kaja Juvan at the Guangzhou Open. She was pegged back after going an early break up in the first but still recovered to take the lead. However, she would lose five games in a row at one point as Juvan emphatically levelled up the contest. McNally increased her level in the decider as she wasn’t broken on serve, winning 6-3 1-6 6-3. She recorded a first serve percentage of 88% and is just one victory away from her first quarter-final on the WTA Tour this season.
She goes up against Ajla Tomljanovic in the next round. The Australian battled her way past Alycia Parks to advance. Parks served for the first set, but Tomljanovic broke back and reeled off four games in a row from 5-3 down to go ahead. She also recovered from a deficit of 4-2 in the second to win 7-5 7-5.
Tomljanovic now has five wins from her last six matches, having come through qualifying to make the semi-finals of the Ningbo Open last week. She is performing well and will fancy her chances of another win against McNally.
