Casper Ruud competed at the Delray Beach Open last week, overcoming Marcos Giron in a tight three set match to make the quarter-finals. However, the Norwegian would lose in the next round to Sebastian Korda despite taking the first set, with Korda going on to win the event.
Ruud faces Yibing Wu in round one. He beat Juan Pablo Ficovich and Rinky Hijikata in qualifying without dropping a set. This was a step in the right direction for the Chinese player, who failed to achieve that feat in Delray Beach last week. He did produce an encouraging showing at the Australian Open, as he was a set away from the third-round after needing to qualify for the slam.
Ruud has not been at his best so far this season, despite some positive displays at times, but he still has enough quality in his all-court game to get the better of Wu in straight sets.
