Casper Ruud enjoyed a far more comfortable match in the second-round as he defeated Hamad Medjedovic. The three-time Grand Slam finalist struggled with the conditions in his first-round encounter and required five sets, but this was much more straight-forward as he won 6-3 6-2 6-4 after two hours and three minutes. Ruud was not broken on serve throughout the match.
He now takes on Tommy Paul. The American also progressed with ease as he beat Lorenzo Sonego. Paul, who progressed to the final of the Hamburg Open last week, was never behind and broke at the start of all three sets as he also claimed a 6-3 6-2 6-4 victory.
Ruud leads the head-to-head 4-2 and 1-0 on clay. They faced each other at Roland Garros in 2020, with Ruud winning in five sets. He is the favourite for this one, but Paul cannot be underestimated after a fine clay court campaign which has seen him reach two finals and win a title in Houston.
