Home hope Caroline Garcia will have a huge crowd following when she meets Bernarda Pera.

The French ace announced she will retire from tennis after Roland-Garros to add extra poignancy to this first round match. 

Garcia has yet to feature on clay this year and has tumbled out of the world’s top 100 since last featuring in Miami. 

Pera is ranked just inside the top 100 but failed to make it through qualifying in Rome and Strasbourg after a decent run in Madrid. 

Interestingly the American leads the match-up 3-1 - including a win on clay - but Garcia did prevail in their most recent meeting at Indian Wells this year. 

The French favourite may well be undercooked coming into this one but if the crowd’s emotion can energise her, she may well produce one last hurrah if her fitness is up to it.
