Carol Zhao was handed a wildcard for her home event at the Canadian Open. She is ranked outside the top 600 and has just four wins from 15 matches in 2026. Her highest ranking was 138 in June 2018. Zhao attempted to qualify for Roland Garros and Wimbledon but lost in the first stage. She is yet to get past the second-round of an event this season.
Her first-round opponent is Magda Linette. The Pole is currently on a four-match losing streak and has not tasted victory since the Libema Open, which ended with a semi-final defeat to Barbora Krejcikova.
