Carlos Alcaraz returns to the prestigious 6 Kings exhibition tournament at Riyadh Season hoping to go one better than last year where he was defeated by Jannik Sinner in the final.
The 22-year-old picked up an ankle injury at the Japan Open which subsequently saw him withdraw from Shanghai.
He had it heavily strapped in Riyadh but he will be fit to play. How much he will push it remains to be seen however.
He meets Taylor Fritz, the man he beat just a couple of weeks ago in the final in Japan 6-4 6-4.
Fritz is arguably in the best shape physically of all the players in Riyadh and that could well be an important factor here.
Fritz beat Alexander Zverev on Wednesday 6-3 6-4 and he will be confident coming into this one.
He may have lost in Japan to Alcaraz but he did beat him in straight sets in the Laver Cup prior to that to register his first win over the Spaniard on the ATP Tour.
Any sign of Alcaraz not being at 100% or not pushing himself to the full extent could see him vulnerable and open the door for Fritz.
