Carlos Alcaraz picked up his second win of the ATP Finals group stage as he came from a set down to defeat Taylor Fritz in a high-quality match. Fritz was aggressive in the opening set and caused problems for the Spaniard, dominating the tiebreak to take the lead. Alcaraz was forced to dig deep in set two as he saved a number of break points, before breaking late in the second to draw level. He was the better player after that and sealed a 6-7 (2) 7-5 6-3 win.
He faces Lorenzo Musetti next up. The Italian picked up his first ever win in the competition as he beat Alex de Minaur in three sets. He started well but De Minaur came back into the match in the second set, while also going a break up in the third. Despite struggling physically, Musetti thrilled the Italian crowd in Turin as he broke back when De Minaur was serving for the match. He broke again with a stunning forehand pass to clinch a 7-5 3-6 7-5 victory in dramatic fashion.
Alcaraz knows he just needs to win this match to finish the year as world number one for the second time in his career. The head-to-head is strongly in his favour, as he leads 6-1 and has won the last six meetings. Musetti looked to be running on empty despite his win, and Alcaraz will take so much confidence from his battling victory against Fritz. This should be a straight-forward win for the six-time Grand Slam champion as he chases another milestone in his career.
