Carlos Alcaraz recorded his ninth straight win in 2026 as he defeated Valentin Royer in straight sets. The world number one easily took the first set but found himself 5-2 down in the second as Royer fought back. Nevertheless, he broke when the Frenchman was serving for the set and did so again at 5-5, before serving it out to win 6-2 7-5.
He now takes on Karen Khachanov. The Russian is into his first quarter-final since August after getting past Marton Fucsovics in three sets. A close encounter saw Fucsovics force a decider which went on serve for the most part. However, Khachanov would clinch victory by breaking in the 10th game to win 6-2 4-6 6-4.
Alcaraz leads the head-to-head 5-0 and 1-0 on outdoor hard court. The seven-time Grand Slam champion keeps finding a way to win, and he should have too much for Khachanov in Doha.
