Carlos Alcaraz clinched the year end world number one spot for the second time in his career after beating Lorenzo Musetti in his final group stage match, making it three wins from three. The Spaniard struck late on in the first set and raced clear in the second to win 6-4 6-1. The six-time Grand Slam champion is now attempting to make the final of this event for the first time in his career.
He will go up against Felix Auger-Aliassime next. The Canadian qualified from the group stage after beating Alexander Zverev in a winner-takes-all clash. Auger-Aliassime was largely in control of the match and won 6-3 7-6(3). That was the 32nd time he had won a tiebreak in 2025.
Alcaraz leads the head-to-head 4-3 but Auger-Aliassime is 2-0 up indoors. Both of those matches took place in the autumn of 2022, with the 25-year-old coming out on top at the Davis Cup and in Vienna. However, the Spaniard has won their last four meetings, all without the drop of a set.
Auger-Aliassime has been in excellent form ever since making the US Open semi-finals and will take confidence from his indoor record against Alcaraz. The Spaniard will need to be ready from the start if he is to get through, and this will be his biggest challenge yet in Turin.
