The Australian Open trophy is the only major title that has so far eluded Carlos Alcaraz, as he chases down a career Grand Slam at the age of just 22.
The world number one has reached the quarter-finals in each of the last two years in Melbourne, but he is expected to surpass that mark at the very least.
The Spaniard has chosen not to enter any warm-up tournaments at the start of 2026, although he did defeat great rival Jannik Sinner in a lucrative exhibition match in South Korea recently. His last competitive match was his loss to the same opponent at the ATP Finals in November.
Alcaraz will face Australia's very own Adam Walton, with the world number 79 set to make his third appearance in his home Grand Slam. Interestingly, it is the only major he is yet win a game at, having previously reached the second round of the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open.
Alcaraz and Walton met at Queen's last year, with the six-time Grand Slam champion winning in straight sets. Anything other than a repeat outcome would be a surprise here.
