Carlos Alcaraz and Serena Williams are more than likely the partnership that fans have paid their tickets to come and see during this mixed-doubles tournament as two of the biggest superstars in the world of tennis. Williams didn’t play in this competition last year, whilst Alcaraz was a first-round exit alongside Emma Raducanu. They’ve been handed a dangerous first-round draw in the form of two Brits with excellent doubles pedigree. 

Lloyd Glasspool is a Wimbledon men’s doubles champion, whilst Erin Routliffe has won the US Open women’s doubles competition twice including just last year, both with Canadian partner Gabriela Dabrowski. But it shouldn’t take long for Routliffe to click with Glasspool, each of whom being current top 15 doubles players. 

However, when you consider the class and never-say-die attitude of both Alcaraz and Williams, not to mention to fervent fan support they are expected to get from the stands, this will be an environment that the two British players are not used to.
