Cameron Norrie enjoyed the best win of his career as he dumped world number one Carlos Alcaraz out of the Paris Masters in the previous round. Alcaraz produced one of his worst displays for quite some time as he committed over 50 unforced errors but that should take nothing away from Norrie, who produced some brilliant passing shots and disrupted the Spaniard’s rhythm at any given opportunity. He won 4-6 6-3 6-4.
He now takes on Valentin Vacherot. The Monegasque faced his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in a rematch of the final of the Shanghai Masters earlier this month, and the result was the same as Vacherot came from a set down to win. He was unable to convert two set points in a lengthy first set tiebreak but regrouped to win 6-7 (9) 6-3 6-4. It’s been an incredible rise for Vacherot in such a short space of time, and he has now won 10 of his last 11 matches.
These slower indoor conditions suit Norrie’s game, as he’s able to grind away and consistently frustrate his opponents with his rally tolerance. Norrie’s confidence will have skyrocketed after a win over the world number one, though Vacherot will be another challenge.
