Cameron Norrie has failed to keep up the momentum on grass after such a strong end to the clay court season. He reached the semi-finals of the Geneva Open and then broke new ground at Roland Garros as he made the fourth-round for the first time. Novak Djokovic stopped him on both occasions and Norrie has struggled to continue that level on grass. He ran out of steam against Jakub Mensik, losing in three sets in the first-round of Queen’s and then fell to a surprise defeat to Billy Harris in Eastbourne.
Roberto Bautista Agut, by contrast, has enjoyed a strong grass court campaign up to now. The former Wimbledon semi-finalist beat Mensik and Holger Rune on his way to a semi-final appearance at Queen’s. He held his own against Carlos Alcaraz but fell to a battling 6-4 6-4 defeat. He also backed that up with a quarter-final finish in Mallorca a week later.
This could be a close encounter, with Norrie likely to raise his game in front of a home crowd. Both men are former Wimbledon semi-finalists, fearless competitors and we can see this going the distance, with Bautista Agut just managing to make it through.
