Cameron Norrie continued his progress at the Los Cabos Open as he beat James Duckworth in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals. Norrie, who won this event in 2021, was largely in control as he won 6-4 6-4. He is back in the last eight of a tournament for the first time since the Barcelona Open in April.
He will now face Bernard Tomic. The 33-year-old produced a brilliant display to beat Karen Khachanov in straight sets and advance to his first ATP quarter-final since 2018. Tomic converted four out of his eight break points as he won 6-2 6-4. Tomic won a Challenger event in Lincoln less than two weeks ago, and the Australian is enjoying a resurgence.
Norrie should be able to frustrate Tomic with his consistent approach, and he will look to force his opponent into hitting extra balls. If Tomic continues to serve well, he could trouble Norrie, but the British number two is still the favourite to advance.
