Brandon Nakashima vs Ben Shelton prediction
Brandon Nakashima defeated Ethan Quinn in straight sets for the second time in a week to book his place in the third-round of the Canadian Open. A tight first set tiebreak saw Nakashima save a set point before taking it 8-6. He then broke right at the start of the second and that proved to be enough, with the world number 32 winning 7-6 6-4. He will have to improve his break point conversion, taking just one out of a possible 12 in his second-round match.
He will now face Ben Shelton for the fifth time. Shelton comfortably defeated Adrian Mannarino to register his first win against the Frenchman after two previously failed attempts. He faced just two break points as he wrapped up a 6-2 6-3 win after just an hour and five minutes.
Shelton has won all four of their meetings without the drop of a set, including the last three at outdoor hard court events. They’ve played twice already this year, with the world number seven winning in the first-round of the Australian Open and the round-of-16 at Indian Wells.
Shelton does seem to have the mental edge over Nakashima and his aggressive style always seems to disrupt his opponent's rhythm. Another straight sets victory could be on the cards here.
