Brandon Holt got off to a strong start on grass as he beat James Duckworth and Adrian Mannarino on his way to making the semi-finals of the Birmingham Classic, but he lost to Otto Virtanen in a close three set match. He was unable to keep that momentum up on the Challenger Tour as he suffered two first-round exits in Ilkley and Nottingham. There was an improvement in Mallorca as he won both qualifying stages and got to the round-of-16, but Alex Michelsen beat him in straight sets.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina took part in just one event prior to Wimbledon after pulling out of Queen’s Club on the eve of his match with Carlos Alcaraz in the first-round. He competed at Eastbourne a week later and showed some encouraging signs as he beat Miami Open champion Jakub Mensik in straight sets in the quarter-finals. He was competitive against defending champion Taylor Fritz in the semi but fell away in the third.
That tournament will have done the world of good for Davidovich Fokina after a poor run of form and time away from the court. Holt will offer a challenge in the first-round but the Spaniard will be heavily backed to win and make it through.
