Botic van de Zandschulp was tested but still came through his first-round match in straight sets after defeating Luka Pavlovic. He broke early to establish a 3-1 lead, but was pegged back as Pavlovic broke his serve for the first time, with the set going to a tiebreak. The Frenchman went 4-2 up in the breaker but Van de Zandschulp won five of the next six points to take the lead. Three consecutive breaks were exchanged in the second, but Van de Zandschulp found some more rhythm on serve to win 7-6 (5) 6-3.
He faces 2022 finalist Stefanos Tstitsipas next. The Greek advanced to the next stage of the tournament after an impressive straight sets win over Arthur Rinderknech. The former world number three was not broken on serve and conceded just one break point as he won 7-5 6-3.
Tsitsipas leads the head-to-head 2-0 after two straight set wins indoors. He performed the better of the two in the last round and his previous record is likely to provide him with a bit of extra confidence as he eyes up a first quarter-final of the season.
