Botic van de Zandschulp picked up his third win of the season over a top 20 opponent after defeating Arthur Fils in straight sets at the Shanghai Masters. The Dutchman saved eight out of nine break point opportunities, winning 7-5 6-4 after one hour and 39 minutes. He is through to the round-of-16 of a Masters event for the second time in 2026.

He now faces Rafael Jodar. The Spaniard came from a set down to beat Jiri Lehecka in his previous match. Jodar dominated the second set tiebreak and then broke in the ninth game of the third, closing it out to win 4-6 7-6 (2) 6-4.

Van de Zandschulp’s flat groundstrokes and ability to take the ball early could trouble Jodar, particularly if he can dictate exchanges with his forehand. However, Jodar possesses greater athleticism and has demonstrated impressive resilience in Shanghai, recovering from a set down in both of his matches so far.
