Borna Coric vs Matteo Gigante prediction
Borna Coric makes his comeback from injury in Toronto after a spell out of action. He last competed in the qualifying rounds of Roland Garros over two months ago, losing in the first stage. He does have four title wins on the Challenger Tour this season, with his latest coming nearly three months ago against three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka in Aix-en-Provence. However, he is yet to win a main draw match on hard courts this season.
His opponent in the first-round is Matteo Gigante. He is up to 125 in the world, aided by his run to the third-round of Roland Garros which included a win over past finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas. He made the semi-finals of the San Marino Challenger last time out, but this will be his first hard court event since early March.
A fully fit Coric would be a heavy favourite to come through this, but he may be slightly rusty after time away due to injury. This could very well go to a deciding set.
