Billy Harris was struggling to make an impact over the last few weeks on grass, with first-round exits at the Birmingham Classic and Queen’s Club, while he could only make the second-round in Ilkley on the Challenger Tour. However, he did make a breakthrough of sorts at Eastbourne in his most recent outing, as he came through qualifying and beat the likes of 2021 Wimbledon semi-finalist Cameron Norrie and Mattia Bellucci on his way to the quarter-finals. He put up a fight against Ugo Humbert but lost in straight sets.
Harris has some momentum to take with him into his first-round clash with Dusan Lajovic. The Serbian only competed in qualifying in terms of grass court preparations and advanced through as a lucky loser after a defeat in the final stage to Arthur Cazauz despite taking the first set.
Lajovic is not the player he once was but Harris will be under pressure having not made the second-round of Wimbledon last year despite being in strong form. We expect a nervy encounter that goes the distance.
