Bianca Andreescu made her first appearance on the WTA Tour in Austin last week, but she was unable to make a deep run as she was defeated by Dalma Galfi in the first-round. The Canadian had shown a strong level of form at lower-level events in the lead up, having won the title in Vero Beach and reached a final in Weston a week earlier. Andreescu won this title as a wildcard in 2019, going on to win the US Open later that year.
Kamilla Rakhimova is her opponent in the first-round. The Russian qualified for this tournament, following a victory over Marie Lourdes Carle, along with Maria Timofeeva’s retirement. Rakhimova is yet to make it past the second-round of an event this season, and she currently has a negative win-loss record in 2026.
This could be the perfect opportunity for Andreescu to register her first tour-level win of the season.
