MOROCCO VS PORTUGAL
Morocco’s magnificent defensive form continues to set the foundations for their success in this World Cup and after shutting out Spain, Portugal’s formidable offensive faces their toughest challenge yet. No team has scored more goals across the World Cup so far than Portugal with only England netting as many. It cannot be understated the gruelling physical toll that the win over Spain would have taken on the Moroccan players, who competed for 120 minutes without the ball for most of the game. Whilst both Aguerd and Saiss should be fit to play once again, they are key centre-backs and it cannot be guaranteed that they will both be feeling 100% from a physical perspective. That, combined with Portugal’s relentless attacking resources and depth which they can call upon from the bench against a tiring opposition, makes backing Portugal to win the smart move here.
TIP: PORTUGAL TO WIN
ENGLAND VS FRANCE
Of all four quarter-finals, this is arguably the most anticipated between two teams who have looked so impressive across the World Cup so far. England’s last big step under Southgate that they have failed to take as of yet, ultimately costing them the chance of winning any trophies has been the ability to beat the very best teams in major competition. Whilst France can call upon the most destructive player in Mbappe, England you could argue, boast the stronger all-round side with injuries having restricted Deschamps’ selections across the tournament. It would be no surprise to see both teams perhaps deploy a more conservative game-plan to counter the attacking riches that each possess. With that in mind, separating the two is very difficult and backing this quarter-final to finish a draw in 90 minutes, therefore being decided via extra time or penalties may prove a shrewd play.
TIP: DRAW
