Bernard Tomic vs Matteo Arnaldi prediction

Bernard Tomic will be making a main draw appearance at a Masters 1000 event for the first time since 2019 after qualifying for the Shanghai Masters. Tomic advanced after wins over Terence Atmane and Timofey Skatov. He has already competed on the ATP Tour this season at the Los Cabos Open, reaching the quarter-finals after a surprise win over Karen Khachanov. The 33-year-old, who was ranked as high as 11 in January 2016, also has a Challenger title to his name after success in Lincoln.

He plays Matteo Arnaldi in the first-round. The Italian played Carlos Alcaraz in the second-round of the Japan Open last week. He performed strongly in the first set and was 6-2 up in the tiebreak against the seven-time major champion, but Alcaraz would reel off six points a row to take the lead and go on to win the match. Arnaldi’s most impressive event was at Roland Garros, where he advanced to the semi-finals. 

The Italian has only won three of his 11 matches on hard courts this season, and he is not as strong on this surface. If Tomic can maintain his focus, he has enough quality in his game to cause his opponent plenty of problems.
