Ben Shelton booked his spot in a quarter-final on grass for the second year in a row with a hard-fought win over Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

The third seed edged to a 7-6 7-5 win over the French qualifier and will now meet Jiri Lehecka.

The Czech eighth seed has yet to drop a set in Stuttgart after following up his win over Benjamin Bonzi with a 6-4 7-5 success over Jan-Lennard Struff.

This will be their first meeting and it’s sure to be dominated by the serve.
