Ben Shelton vs Daniel Altmaier prediction

Ben Shelton is the third seed at the Shanghai Masters. He broke new ground last month after his run to the final of the US Open. This included a dramatic five set victory over Carlos Alcaraz, and a win over compatriot Frances Tiafoe in the last four. However, he was unable to win a maiden major title after a defeat to top seed Alexander Zverev. Shelton has also claimed three titles this season, including a successful defence of his Canadian Open crown, and he is now ranked world number four.

He received a bye in the first-round and takes on Daniel Altmaier next. The German recovered from a slow start to beat Holger Rune. The Dane, who is still in the early stages of his comeback from a ruptured ACL, dropped just one game on his way to taking the opener. However, Altmaier edged ahead in the second set tiebreak and closed out the match in the decider to win 1-6 7-6 (5) 6-4. 

Shelton is the clear favourite to come out on top with the victory.
